are we talking with the plastic shield as chris says or the namex hook and eye way ?

as far as i know with both its the sudden stopping/slowing of the lead as it hits the water then the bait keeping going till it hits the water a fraction on a second later that gives the slack to loose the hook from the lead
the plastic shield is supposed to push the hook off to the side at the same time but i have never worked out how that works to be honest
if in danger or in doubt run around and scream and shout

Had the same prob as you john , i use an imp behind the namix and it hasnt let me down , i think the other lads are thinking about the breakaway impact lead which comes in different colours but its only to show the weight of the lead ie red 6ounce ,yellow 150 gram , if using these with a paternoster make sure the hook length is under tension when putting it in the bait clip or you will have probs , on closer inspection there is 4 grooves incorpaated under the plastic release system  in the lead on the sinker allowing it to float upwards when in the water relleasing the hook and bait

as already said john ,it needs to be under tention for it to release.if the snood is loose its just going to come apart when the leads in flight.
of all the things iv lost,
only my mind needs to be found.

thinking the fixed bait clip with namex lead may work with dropper rig or some call it dropper pulley i think.
