Tuition from Codho
« on: September 25, 2010, 07:20:26 am »
I had a beginners guide session given by a very kind Codho last night.

Started out from Hartlepool Marina at 19:30 and headed to the Middleton beach. The sea was alittle on the angry side and within 5 minutes of walking down the steps it claimed its first victim. A very wet and cold right foot but being the trooper that Iam I didn't slink off to a corner and sulk, no sir, I'm here to catch FISHIES.

Rigs and bait kindly provided by Codho, we prepared to storm the sea with our Pennel Pulley rigs and wriggley (with a slight hint of 'OH MY GOD thats disgusting') lugworm.

The veteran Codho casts out and I just stand in awe at how easy it seems, well yes what looks easy is never as easy when tried for the first time. My first cast (thank god it was dark) was not a total disaster but maybe just enough to annoy one or two small waves. We waited what seemed a short time but then time is short when your enjoying the company and chat, then time to reel in, bait up and cast again. Erm, somethings missing from my line here, what was there is not there anymore. A conspiracy by the FISHIES, not happy to chomp on my bait they untied my rig, very delicately and sent it back. Now it's war my friends.

Not that I let the fishies win but due to the fact Codho and I felt sorry for them, what with the weather an all, we decided to let them live and swim another day. We continued on until just after 22:30 and decided to call it a night.

Absolute class bloke Codho and very grateful to him for taking the time (which I know he didn't have to and wouldn't have normally gone there on such a night) and driving so far just to show a novice the ropes. He's certainly a very easy person to get along with and can give the novice the motivation to keep at it.

Thanks Trev.

try getting out again with some of the other members. trev likes to throw weights at the fish hoping to knock um unconscious :lol2:just ask the lads whos going out or put a whos out this weekend up and you are bond to get an invite to fish  :STUPIDD:(you must provide your own alcohol and sarnies)send the lads a pm .im sure someone will let you tag along and hopfully put you onto a couple of fish.
of all the things iv lost,
only my mind needs to be found.

Very kind of you all. Due to my work I only get one weekend off in two, the other I'm on call so couldn't be out fishing if I'm meant to be somewhere else (as much as I'd like to be).

Certainly up for another session when I'm not working.

Regards
Stephen

I most certainly will, I'm already itching to get out and have my left foot soaked ;)

Learnt a great deal from Trev and one particular tip that was so simple but very effective. Been sat at the kitchen table for an hour or so tying some Pulley rigs (Trev style).

I should be off next weekend but I'm doing some private work for an employer so may not even get the chance. Oh well at least it keeps my collies in bones.
