He Has not seen a cod for a long long time :laugh20:....Seriously though, interesting article,it begs the question,,,,How many other boats have done this and getting away with it ...It really does not give credibility to the estimated fish numbers when boats are catching what they like and not reporting them :(

The CFP is a farce chris, one of the major problems is as this article points out and you mention how many other boats are fiddling their catch reports.

Anyone in the industry can tell you in Spain the Spanish fishery inspectors are half @r$ed to say the least while in the UK the fishery inspectors come down very hard on fisherman catching over their quota.
The only way I can see to correct this is to scrap the CFP, of course the rest of Europe who are milking the system won't allow it, they like raping British waters and landing their catch elsewhere.
I'm not suggesting it's only Spanish and French fisherman doing the raping, it's not but the CFP has lead to everyone treating our waters as a free for all fishing ground to be dredged clean, no respect or considerations are made for spawning grounds, spawning just makes the mass pillaging of the waters easier.

Food for thought, in the early 1970s Britain's sea fisheries were near on parr with that of Norway, Britain joined (formed) the Common Fisheries Policy Norway didn't join, 35 years later it doesn't take a genius to figure out what our problem is.

So am i right in thinking, what your saying is the foreign boats can come and fish our waters, catch what they like and land them where they are not under our fisheries rules /regs wtf

We can't control the waters mate the only way around it is to shut down areas, look off the north yorks coast now the start of the herring spawn, already a 250 ton "herring trawler" in dutch owned but reg's in the UK.Now the likes of this ship will trawl for herring but what's out there trying to eat the herring spawn, all yer big an little cod,Bye catch they cant land them. Not been funny but Herring isnt a mega selling fish in the Uk,so why allow fishing during the herring spawn when you know the cod stocks are going to be damaged
I'm not a complete idiot there's bits missing

We Do Have Laws,, And The Fishery Protection Force,,But They Carnt Protect All The North Sea..
A Few French,, Spanish Boats Do Get Stopped Found Guilty, And The Owner, And Captain Fined
Anything Up To ?50.000 ,,,,Thats Good, But For Every Boat Found,,Three Gets Away,,
There Is No Easy Answer,,,,,,,                             ,,,,,BRI,,,,,

Same rules and regs, just the Spanish enforcement officers aren't so bothered about enforcing when their boats land their catch.

It's true some 'foreign' boats are caught and fined, but when you compare this to a British commercial fisherman had the proceeds of crime act used against him, seizing his boat, car, house and every penny he had to his name it's hardly the same level of enforcement across EU borders.
