clip down rigs
« on: July 31, 2010, 07:37:30 pm »
Normally use gemini clips incorporated with pulley rigs, however changed my casting style and will be using a pendulum cast on beaches or where safety allows this winter, what clip down rigs is generally used with the pendulum,i think the hook would tend to come free when pendulum casting with genie bait clips, thinking maybe the new splashdown weights ;)

Have Tried The Splashdown Leads Chris The Only Problem With Them Is
The Grooves For The Wires Get Clogged With Sand, But Easily Brushed Out,
And The Slider Needs  Looking At Every Cast,,
But They Do Work And Dont Realease During The Cast...

Splashdowns are alright if fishing clean ground Chris an expensive option on the rough.Mustad do some nice lead clips that hold together well on an OTG so I imagine will be ok for pendulum(more chance of losing the tension in a ground cast)

As Eddie Says Chris Impact will probs do,i've heard a few anglers who don't use pulley rigs when power casting apparently the main rig body line cuts as the swivel cuts the line on impact of the cast? Not sure how true this is but it seems possible.  :s

for worm baits i use imps. for bigger baits crab etc i use the impact shields.

i only use pulleys when down by myself i do regard them as dangerous myself lots of people will disagree.

Becarefull when swinging it or power casting with pulley rigs , as john says they can be dangerous, a simple paternoster rig , with an imp , or impact shield is safer when swinging it chris

Those proper pulley clips should do the job as already mentioned reckon they are superb for stopping line damage and kinks during casting/fishing with them on your rig.

Will Agree With The Boss On This One, The Proper Pulley Clips Do The Job,,If Correctly Set Up..On Our Coast Clean Beaches , The Pulley Rigs Not Needed,, But In Winter The Best Cod Marks, Do Need The Pulley, Or A Weak Link.  Thats Becouse Of The Under Water Boulder Clay Unseen By The Angler..

The basic problem with pulley rigs (when power casting) is you're lead is hanging on the hook snood, which will probably be only about 30lb line. The only way round it is to use snoods the same breaking strain as you're normal shockleader would be.As you know Chris I don;t have the power casting problem :lol2:

as long as the knot / bead  on the lead side is up against the swivel and the leader is the same as the line to the lead then the hook length can be as light as you like . it will carry no weight during the cast , it has more stretch than the lead length and if using an impact shield the shield would slide on the lead line if the stretch was used up for some reason
unless your pulley rig is made up with the swivel to the hook link side which is not how i was taught to make it  :ash22:

I normally have my snood a bit shorter so the swivel/propa pulley is about 1" down the main body when clipped up. I don't like having direct pressure on the knot but this means the weight during casting is on the snood.

its on it anyway lol or all the strain is .

i find that when its resting on the knot or a bead then the knot it does less damage as its pushing the knot ( depending on type ) tighter

i do it this way because i dont find a 70 to 90 lb  hook length any good for bait presentation where as with 15 to 25 lb line it moves in  a more natural way especially when using avocart  :HPY2:
