I've got a greys nitra which I do all my really heavy ground fishing with teamed up with a slosh 30,it'll pull anchors up.Been using it about 2yrs now and it's had's had some stick, been bounced a few times, the only repair I've had to do was when some clown stood on it last year while I was baiting up, cost me 2 new rings.
I'm not a complete idiot there's bits missing

were should one start - fishing rod do you want it for beach/ pier/
cliff top/ prom lifting fish over boulders at an angle/ rock edge fishing/fishing into heavy kelp were do you start for best rod.
one rod wont do all above imho

casting most i think prefer zziplex but again decisions do you spend on the rolls royce of rods zziplex or what about a tournament extreme which niel kelland cast over 300 yds with years ago with ,37dia line a m8 of mine was there. the extreme would be classed as heavy and ungainly and i think you would be lucky to see one at a casting event but it has done the job proved itself.

IMHO ya cannot beat zziplex  for relability but daiwa rods are vastly underated , the amormhpous range were light years ahead of a lot of other manufactures and still a great rod today

The Whisker range of Diawa rods (in my case it was a trout fly rod) really were in a league of their own, I remember at the time trying everything House of Hardy had and complaining at their rep that nothing they done was on parr with my Whisker Fly, I'd say it took 5 years for House of Hardy and other manufacturers to get their act in order.

As for Sea rods, you're talking nonsense!, Zziplex, pah, give me a Fladden Powerstick anyday, they catch far more maky! ask any of the pro-anglers on Roker right now!

Some canny replies there lads....Tony your right about Daiwa....another manufacturer i never mentioned,i actually have a daiwa sandstorm, which for fishing piers jettys etc, canny bit of kit for 100 quid, doubt i would give it a go with the pendulum though
Most of my fishing is Rocks, beaches and mostly in the north east where there is usually a strong tide pull and realisticly you need something substantial, the rods which have served me well Centurys, probably the best all round rod being the Tip tornado sport, followed by the Kompressor, just recently got the Eliminator, but could not really comment on its ability yet........Not disrespecting Zippys just i have only ever tried them on the casting field.........Sonics also seem like canny rods and good value for money but again never tried them

what about the harrison torix rods uk hand made good value for money.

ian golds extractor 175 pounds no breakages with them.

daiwa rod nice but price puts a lot of people off, thin walled blanks i think not very good rock fishing with them lying them down.

i had a paul kerry supercast 12ft yrs ago fished wth it reel up distace i got with it good. light and a pleasure to use but only clean beach rod.

awb 129 best daiwa rod imo casts itself brilliant watched mrtt along prom one day using a one baits were going out miles but a clean beach rod again imo

daiwa 142  heard of a few of these breaking.

might have myself a m4 evo good allrounder for up here imo

which is the best rod,
a rod that catches fish ,they dont know whos got what rod or how much it costs so long as its got bait on the end of the line it could be attatched to any rod.using a second hand ron thompson at the moment and it seems to have put 10 yards on my casting,it might be im feeling better than i have for a long time but i was getting mid river with every cast on the walkway without hurting mysel.
of all the things iv lost,
only my mind needs to be found.

Like you say Bri it makes no difference to the fish, but it makes a difference to you eg if the rod feels right then you're happier using it.As for second hand rod's I've got the nitra,TT sport, zippy lt.Abu sauveron all bought second hand mate( cos I'm a tight barsteward and won't pay ?250-?300 for a rod :laugh20:) come to think of it the last new beachrod I bought was a penn powerstick surf and it's shite. The end of the day if the rod feels right it's the rod for you and everyone's different  :up22:

Hope i dont sound patronising , but when power casting you want a rod you feel will never snap on you while casting , ive had this happen to me on several ocasions and its very of putting , thats why i like my zzipies , the thought of the rod snapping doesnt enter my mind while using me zzippies, i have a ron thompson for roughing it but wouldnt use it for power casting

Fair comment Tony only had one rod snap on me and that wasn't while casting, still not a nice experience.Like you say you 've got to have confidence in the rod whether it's powercasting or fishing heavy ground.
