« on: July 29, 2010, 08:48:29 pm »
what the furk, why was she getting me outa bed for, things to do places to go at the weekend and if i wanted to go fishing it would have to be today.got dressed had coffee and out of the house in 10 minuites.had a look to see what time the tides are mmmmmmmmmm after 6 not good,oh well, phones reelsport fresh worms wont be in till 12.sod it went back to bed for an hour.
ghot me gear together n called to reelsport for rag maccy, blues,n mussleand had 2 rods in at the walkway by 1 oclock.couple of hand sized colies took the bait but only 1 was size

sorry put wrong photo up.
oh well at least i was getting some sport .lost at least 2 that were good sized fish getting snagged on the way in ,end tackle and a good bit line lost, bol liks.have another chuck and if this one got snagged i was going to head for mill dam, rattle rattle.
nice knock on the rod n starts to reel in oh my god what in furks name was this it felt massive ,but no fight ,weed i thought nope this horror on the end

must have been 10 inches across and mad as hell.didnt take to kindly me taking the bait out of its gob.an ald couple who were on the walkway were asking if it made good eating,i was never going to take that home and they said they didnt want it so back it want,it looked like it was doing the breaststroke as it went down.not alot  was happening until the lads on the fishing trip were coming back in,id just put on the last of the rag and a double helping of mackeral, knock knock im in again deary me somit was going ballistic  on the end of the line ,and by the time i got to the leader i was huffin n chuffin  wow a mackeral taken on the bait on the bottom  i had just put in.didnt know they eat there own.

38 cm long and 15 ounces biggest maccy iv caught
question do they normaly feed on there own kind and do they ever feed on the bottom.
canny day for being knocked outa bed.

Cracking crab Bri,should of gone in the pot mate.Don't know if it's the pic angle but that makkies top jaw looks deformed. The answer to the question is yes they're cannibals mate, top bait makkie belly and they feed on the bottom.Normally when they are well in the bigger ones are always on the bottom, try putting a bit of cork(about 1/2 or 1/3 rd of a wine bottle cork) a few inches up from the hook to keep the bait away from the crabs, you'll still pick up billet and macky just off the bottom.

Just split the cork about half way Bri then use a laggy band around it to tighten it on the line

Cheers Bri,excellent report, you done well mate,as you always do off the walkway, seen nquite a few macky caught off there, usually on the bigger tides, seen them caught in the wear as well, suppose they are just following the food.......Right what Trev says about the corks, this used to work well off Roker for catching mackeral on the bait....worth a try

do i just thread the cork over the hook before i put the bait on ,or does it go a certain way up the line.
watderya meen,do well on the walkway, blanked the last couple of times on the and still losing gear if the tide pulls.wish someone with a big grappling hook could clear some of the snaggs out.do ya think the liecence feepeople will get round to doing it if we have to pay for it ,I DONT THINK SO SONNY JIM. :fg1:thats all we get from them.
pity mind its a top venue when its not so snaggy.

Simple as this Bri, First cut the cork 1/3 to 1/2 way thro

Then place it on the line above you're hook (I normally have it a few inches further back than this)

Then put the laggy band on to hold it in place,
[/URL)
Simples, :up22:
