Boat Angling guide

Well where do we start?

What will you need with regards to Boat fishing for your trips;

A Boat rod and reel something like an ugly stick 20-30lb class,penn 535 loaded with braid or a big reel loaded with heavy mono,braid seems to be the norm now with the boat anglers though simply because of the sensitivity you have when the fish bite.

A selection of lures,terminal tackle and weights is also a must perhaps a box with your reel and other bits in,included will be a filleting knife,scissors,bait elastic,a cloth and a bag for rubbish so when you get ashore you can bin it instead of throwing your mess in the sea! Its ok to throw fish guts in,including carcass as the crustaceans and other fish will eat them.

So you've got your boat rod,reel and selection of end gear sorted,next the bait!

Alot of anglers simply catch mackerel and use this,a very good bait throughout the year on the boats however if there is no mackerel around always take bait with you,a cooler bag or a small bucket with lid is best,for storing your bait in,ragworm,peeler crab,squid,mussel. It will also come in handy for storing your catch in at the end of your trip.

I would also advise a life jacket or smock when out at sea for all it may be sunny and summer time,it is always a tad chilly out there and also a life jacket will aid in the worst case scenario of you going in. Now please keep safe and enjoy your boat trips.

Please add your thoughts to this guide,its basic and needs updating!
