A very interesting story that 1 Chris, I would have done the same and kept the fish. It just goes to show that the problem with the amount of sprat and sandeel in the waters is not just a problem locally it seems to be all the way down the east coast. Lets just hope that we have some good storms very soon to disperse the shoals and allow the cod to come closer into shore to be fed.
Anyone can fish......It's Catching them that's the hard part.

2011 SPECIES CAUGHT:  Coalie x3(biggest 33.5cm), Rockling x6, Blenny x1, Flounder x1, Whiting x1

interesting to read about the cod beaching itself after chasing sandeels,I can recall the same thing about 30 years ago, when I was just a lad .I was at South Shields beach opposite the Waterside pub with a freinds family when we saw a cod splashing around in the waves .I waded in and caught it,despached it much to the disgust of a few people around me.I also ignored the advice of an older bloke who said he would get rid of it for me as itmust be deseased to beach itself like that.Took it home then on to McKeiths fishmongers in Chester Road in Sunderland where he weighed it in at 22Lb.He then gutted it and was full of sandeels and spratts,he then kindly steaked and filleted it for me,me mam werent half pleased when I took it home for the freezer.
