Hall Beach Last Night 12-12-10
« on: December 13, 2010, 10:48:13 am »
Well gents, i fished the hall from 4-8.30 pm yesterday.Conditions were perfect and fishing from the prom there was no wind at all,a lovely swell and lots of colour in the water.Started off using just rag with no results so at 6pm i changed over to rag tipped with bluey and a good sized chunk of macci.A couple of canny knocks came from this but could not convert. Then just after 7pm after rebaiting with 3 large rag,a large piece of bluey and a very large piece of macci i got a knock, well more like a thump with a mash hammer.Rod went ballistic and was pulled from the tripod,i caught hold of the butt just as the reel snagged on my tripod upper 'V' rest.No need to strike it as when i lifted the rod 'IT WAS GOING MENTAL'.Started to wind in,rod bouncing all the way and then 20 yards from the shore the tip went slack and the rod straightened.I continued to wind in cursing to myself prefusely.Got my gear back and checked my trace. All bait gone and my lower hook, bloody knot came loose and all i was left with was a lovely curly pigtail at the end of the line.Bloody Gutted. That was the best knock i have had and was 10 times better than the knock i had when i got my 3lb cod.
Rehooked the trace and fished on, managed 2 small rockling and a small yting after that so it wasn't a toal waste of time.I will be back to try again b4 the week is out.
And this is for Eddie, that lantern really does keep ya hands warm mate :cm1: :cm1:

It was a brilliant knock Tony, it hit harder than the 11lb pike i got in the summer.

Like Tony says sounds like a silver bar with a bite like that, getting them thro the surf is always the hard bit seem to have a knack of shaking the hook close in.
