Middleton Pier 27/11/10
« on: November 27, 2010, 05:44:29 pm »
Set off from home at 5am (yon side of Newton Aycliffe) and had to drive like a sunday driver due to the freshly laid snow and ice underneath. Eventually arrived at Hartlepool at 6ish and found there was already two other guys on the pier. The sea was big and the swell rather large too, the wind was very healthy (damn gale if you ask me). Set up and afew minutes later a whiting was pulled in by John (one of the 'other guys'), a very nice size too.

I found it rather difficult distinguishing bites from the swell and the wind but did manage to catch a gripper and some line (into the tackle box). After eating my second ham 'frozen' sandwich and tepid coffee I saw what looked like a nice knock. Held the rod for alittle but nothing. Just as I lit up a fag, another knock, held it and felt it pull like crazy. Nice little struggle what with the swell and also tangling myself up with my second rods line. Well, up she came.

My first ever codling---Whoop  :YHMAN:

Here she is (already eaten for tea and she was in Bernard Matthews own words 'Beau---tiful).

None whatsoever, the gates open but the pier froze within an hour of being there, treacherous walking along back to car.
