Stupid thought?
« on: November 09, 2010, 07:50:01 pm »
Right gents, i've been having a think and please no...."Thats unusual for a geordie" comments :cm1:
Don't really want to lay out huge amounts of money on a new rod as xmas is coming up.So here is the thought.
I love my rod even though it isn't a new 1.Only thing that is getting me is it could do with being 18 inches to 2 foot longer. Would a snooker cue push fit butt extension work if i used it in conjunction with a moveable reel seat?

Views please gents
Anyone can fish......It's Catching them that's the hard part.

2011 SPECIES CAUGHT:  Coalie x3(biggest 33.5cm), Rockling x6, Blenny x1, Flounder x1, Whiting x1

Just thinking if you put a moveable reel seat on and can get away with casting reel down that'll give you the effect of an extra couple of foot of rod. I have mine about a ft to 18 inches from the bottom when fishing it saves messing on with a reducer, you could always just jubilee clip it on for a trial.

Dont stick anything like that in your rod dave, chances are if water gets to it,the wood will swell and cause damage to your rod or get stuck..........Get a reducer from rutherfords, hopefully he will have one that will fit your rod,get a slidable reel seat or a set of coasters so you can move your reel up and down to suit........ideally practice casting with the reel at the botttom your rod will perform a lot better, couple of hours practice it will feel quite normal. :up22:

Thanks for all of the advice and suggestions gents...I'm gonna have a look at rutherfords and see if a reducer is available. I know i can get a sliding reel seat for a tenner. So i think i'll give those options a try first b4 lashing out on a new rod.

Don't know if you've used a reducer before Dave, but you take them off when casting they're only to help you reeling in.

I'm just gonna wait and get a new rod...Why spend 25 quid and take the risk of it being no better.

I cast off the reducer both on the field and on some rods when im fishing . The reducers i have are both century and zziplex and provided the reels are positioned on the top end of them ( near the blank ) theres no problem ,although on other makes of rod i would make sure the bottom of the rod was either whipped or strengthened using a coaster to prevent splitting .
Lobbers usually breaks tips but thats due to his style of cast

Fair comment mate, I always thought the reducers did'nt have the same strength as the rod butt.
