Clothing for the coming winter
« on: October 17, 2010, 09:58:17 pm »
Since getting the bug of sea fishing Iam now finding that my hiking equipment, that I've used in many winter hikes just isn't up to the hours of standing and sitting on the piers. Problem is that I'm staying lovely and dry but am finding the cold getting through my Sprayway and Lowes gear. I've even purchased a decent set of thermals but the chill of the longer nights and frost which seems on its way will make me a very unhappy blanker.

I've noticed many people including Trev wearing similar kit. What is this kit and where should I be looking, also what manufacturers are worth looking at?

Cheers Fellas.

I tend to wear waterproof sallopettes and a smock, windproof and waterproof, wear a few layers underneath and you dont really feel the cold, plus they tend not to restrict your movement, when casting etc, some of the lads wear flotation suit which will keep you very warm, might pay to go into your local tackle shop and have a look at what is on offer, you should be able to get fully kitted out for less than 100 quid

Amazing what a difference a decent suit makes, hiking gear isn't any good as you are kept warm by hiking itself to a larger extent, shore fishing standing still is a killer (not as bad as sitting static chub fishing at night mid winter at -7 but,, )
Get yourself a flotation suit, something like a Sundridge 2 piece and some warm boots half the battle is done, the sundridge suits also have hand warmer pockets I can't begin to tell you how much I love those things lol

i use the salopettes and that sees to me bottom half but not like some anglers,i dont fish at night because of bad health, good boots are essential as are decent pair of gloves .high viz waterproof jacket and fleece lets me move about and doesnt hold iz back when im casting.thermals are ok if ya like um but i prefer to wear baggy clothes.
all in one and 2 piece suits are highly recomended but as with all my winter gear i dont put it all on till i get to where im fishing to much sweating on the way to the mark will leave you cold all night as soon as you stop moving ,i find it better to put on as you feel colder then i feel the benifit of the winter gear.
id go for an upper priced flotation suit ,heard to many bad remarks about the cheaper ones and some of the dearer ones are way out of my price bracket for what fishing i do.
of all the things iv lost,
only my mind needs to be found.

I have my eye on a couple on Ebay. First if it falls in the right price bracket will be a Preston Dri Fish 1000.
