« on: July 16, 2010, 07:41:06 pm »
The Ragworm is a small to a large red marine worm, with a pincer which if it bites you can be a nasty nip, though it can't poison you or anything.Ragworms can be found mainly around estuarys with the king ragworm the biggest member of the family! The king rag can be dug on the biggest tides of the year, ragworm die after spawning, ragworm can be the best bait at times when fishing certain areas such as estuaries, where flounder, eels and small bass can be caught the ragworm can out fish crab baits in the summer months, alot of scent comes of the ragworm which the fish divulge in and like most baits it can be excellent with a small tip off shellfish or a fish bait such as a thumbnail size of mackerel, most tackle shops sell ragworm but the best stuff is the ragworm you dig yourself like lugworm ragworm will keep for a month if kept in fresh sea water with regular changes, ragworm at times just shrinks when kept in water, king ragworm is best to keep as they are big and take little effort to look after unlike the smaller stuff which you have to seperate into several trays. Cod,bass, whiting, flounder and most sea fish will take a ragworm bait.
