that will not work jon you just have not got the fish stocks were the long lines will work icelands /norways cods stocks  are high mate  put out down and you are going to get cod the quoters have got to stop in place mate and there should be a total ban between the months of december
to the end of february so all mature cod at least get to spawn once and maybe give the lads a little bit extra in the summer months but as far as disgaurds go the deckhands are not going to make there day any harder than it is by getting the fish in the water when the fish are still alive
even though it can be done so the public see all this fish being wasted and think its a disgrace
yes it is a damm disgrace but a lot of it can be prevented and as far as gill nets go which i have also spent a lot of time doing stop the trammels which is a bigger meshed net on a smaller meshed net when a fish hits it it takes the smaller meshed net into the bigger meshed net and makes a pocket the fish might only be 3 pound and would go through the smaller meshed net no problem  mesh size 5.5inch if it was not for the trammel walls [the bigger meshed net i started
fishing commercial in 1979 we used nylon nets 4.5 inch mesh sizewe used to get loads of fish in the 2-5 pound size but cleaning them was hard after a swell crabs weed stones the comes mono nets and trammels you could fish 5 times more net  and the size of the fish increased so now you were getting small fish as well as all the spawning fish how can that be kept up  some boats are fishing 8000 yards of trammel net
Bloody hell, nee the wonder the cod stocks are ferked, surely it will get to the point where the trawlers cant catch enough fishto make it worthwhile
